OUTLINE

Four Truths about Forgiveness.

1. Forgiveness is simple. 

• Sin needs to be forgiven. 
• God forgives our sin.
• We forgive others.
• We believe in forgiveness.
• Matthew 6:12

2. Forgiveness is complicated.
a. True or False?

• Where deep wounds between people are concerned, forgiveness can be unpacked in a moment.
• Most people agree about what forgiveness is and how it should take place.
• Good people resolve all their disagreements. 
• There are times when it is wrong to forgive.

b. For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. James 2:10

3. Forgiveness is unconditional.

• Matthew 18:21-45
• God demonstrated his love for us in this - While we were still sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
• God loves sinners unconditionally because there is no good thing in us that moves God to love us or forgive us.

4. Forgiveness is conditional.  

• Matthew 6:14-15
• If we confess our sins God is faithful and just and to forgive us our sins. 1 John 1:9
• Matthew 18:21-45
