OUTLINE
Four Truths about Forgiveness.
1. Forgiveness is simple.
- Sin needs to be forgiven.
- God forgives our sin.
- We forgive others.
- We believe in forgiveness.
- Matthew 6:12
2. Forgiveness is complicated.
a. True or False?
- Where deep wounds between people are concerned, forgiveness can be unpacked in a moment.
- Most people agree about what forgiveness is and how it should take place.
- Good people resolve all their disagreements.
- There are times when it is wrong to forgive.
b. For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. James 2:10
3. Forgiveness is unconditional.
- Matthew 18:21-45
- God demonstrated his love for us in this - While we were still sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
- God loves sinners unconditionally because there is no good thing in us that moves God to love us or forgive us.
4. Forgiveness is conditional.
- Matthew 6:14-15
- If we confess our sins God is faithful and just and to forgive us our sins. 1 John 1:9
